[Hythlodaeus might be the most gifted in the vision of all of them, but he certainly isn't the only observant one. Achelois has learned much through her travels, and she's been around him for years.
She squeezes his hand softly. She wishes she could make him see how he looks to her, but her words ever seem to fall on deaf ears. To this day, she cannot fault him for proposing Hades for the seat of Emet-Selch, but he would not have been offered the seat himself if he had had no skill... and yet he turned it down because he did not believe himself capable enough. Of course, Hades is perfect for the role, but Achelois still thinks Hythlodaeus would have been an asset to the Concovation, even if he cannot see it himself.]
I have every confidence he could manage without my help. It's not being informed that I find unacceptable. I wouldn't have cared if he'd sent word after all was said and done, if he had just bothered to do so when it happened.
Not that I hold only him responsible. Any of the others could have done so as well and they did not and I find that... interesting.
[She's going to have words with some people, and they are not going to like it.
As for his last question...]
It's not confidential. Not yet, at least. I came across a smaller settlement where people were having toruble with their creation magicks. Something was... disturbing their aether, somehow, so that they either could not use magicks at all, or if they did, the results were not what was expected.
It appeared to resolve on its own after a few days, but I could not identify any obvious cause, and I believe it requires further investigation.
[ It is ... very difficult to truly see it, when from a young age you have seen with wonder how much others can do, and failed in the simplest task, or needed so much practice and focus and aid as to be next to failing - and even more so when growing up next to someone so very talented in the exact same things where you fail. And yet more when the other person dearest to your heart is also so gifted and capable.
When you have to keep begging aid while being able to offer so little of it back.
He greatly appreciates her reassurance and support, beyond what words can express. But he can't close his eyes to the reality of his own life. Not even to reassure her. ]
I... more or less surrendered my right to censure them myself, although I would have expected better of Emet-Selch. [ Yes, he knows he can call him Hades when it's the two of them. No, he doesn't want to get into the habit, other than some certain situations of intimacy, to make sure he doesn't slip easily. The title deserves respect, and he is going to make sure he gives it. Ribbing and actual criticisms notwithstanding.
His breath catches slightly, fingers twitching against her before they relax again. ]
Were you there while it was happening? Did it affect you, as well?
I also expect better of him, and I think he usually expects better of himself, so I sure hope he has a good explanation for it. As do all of the others. It seems like I need to remind some people that just because I am not physically present all the time doesn't mean I am not keeping up with things.
And if they're not happy with how I do my job, let's see them try and throw me out.
[She's not scared of giving them this kind of ultimatum after all. She knows some people are grumbling about how she took too much after Mistress Venat. Maybe it'd make them seethe to her in white robes too.]
I didn't notice anything amiss with myself, and the phenomenon was already underway when I arrived. I also could not detect anything particularly different in the ambient aether either.
Come to think of it, maybe I should take you to have a look. If anyone can discern things I could not, it would be you.
